These are the 10 best colleges for women looking to create their own companies - and get them funded

Life is not easy for women startup founders.

Studies show that it is likely harder for them to get venture capital funding, and that once they do, they still have to deal with the casual sexism that seems to pervade the tech industry.

But despite that, there is also evidence that their companies succeed - even though they make up only around 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs. Venture heavyweight First Round Capital analyzed its entire portfolio going back a decade and saw that companies with at least one female founder have performed 63% better than all-male teams.

But to get into that "funded" club, it's helpful to start with the right university network - the kind that has connections to prominent venture capitalists. And there are colleges that are much better at helping women entrepreneurs than others.

PitchBook tracked college graduates over the last five years and found which schools were helping launch women founders and their companies, as well churning out entrepreneurs who actually attracted funding.

The list is similar between the genders, but there are some notable differences. Both Yale and University of Pennsylvania appear to provide greater benefits to women founders than their male counterparts.
