They're going to make a movie of the Google employee's novel which describes all the sex and drugs at fictional search ad company
Syta was an ad sales executive at Google for two years until 2014. He became disillusioned with his work and dropped out to write a novel about a fictional search advertising giant called Show. The story describes a San Francisco search ad company that employs a lot of 20-somethings who make a lot of money, have a lot of parties, drink a lot of booze, sleep with one another indiscriminately, and take a lot of cocaine.
Syta told Business Insider that although the book is not a factual account of life at Google, "90%" of it is true. Syta worked at Google's Dublin HQ. An email to Business Insider from Inkshares, the publisher, says:
After several A List producers circled in, a to-be-named streaming platform made a large preemptive offer on TV rights. Immediately thereafter, Inkshares and United Talent Agency closed a six-figure deal for audio book rights [with] Penguin Random House.
Syta declined comment.
The book's highlights include a section about the company's in-house drug dealers, "the drug lords," and a couple of passages that describe the way Show's ad sales execs simply make up, or lie about, numbers and statistics for their managers and clients. The word Google is never mentioned in the book.
Syta is now a growth manager at Ztory, a books and magazines app, in Stockholm.
