Below is a compilation of expected Android 14 features that might appear available in 2023. This list is based on Mishaal Rehmaan’s tweet who is a prominent journalist and Android expert who has given an overview of the new features and modifications that Android 14 developer preview has.

Expected Android 14 features in 2023

Customizable Fonts and Preferred Default Language option

One of the most noticeable improvements is increasing the maximum font zoom level, with non-distorting and non-linear scaling. Previously limited to 130%, the setting has been expanded to allow for a font size increase of up to 200%, resulting in more easily readable text for visually challenged users.

Moreover, app developers can now allow users to select their preferred default language. This includes the addition of support for grammatically gendered languages, such as French and German.

Fast Pair Service setting spotted in developer preview

Google continues to emphasize its Fast Pair service. The feature has now been added to the Connected Devices preferences within the Settings menu, alongside Bluetooth, Cast, and NFC options. By tapping the Fast Pair option, users can access a toggle that allows scanning Fast Pair devices.

Improved battery settings

The battery setting section has received several updates, ranging from minor tweaks to modest improvements. In the usage area, the screen-on time is now labelled with the last charge’s duration, and users can view usage by app or system breakdown. The Battery Saver section now features direct access to the Extreme Battery Saver on the main page and a toggle for the Adaptive Battery.

Focus on big screens, and cross-device use cases

With the introduction of new form factors such as foldable and flip phones, Android 14 is dedicated to providing optimizations that will accommodate a range of screen layouts. This ensures that apps can be easily supported on any screen size or form factor.

Satellite connections

Following in the footsteps of the iPhone 14 family, the satellite connectivity feature will be available on selected Android phones in 2023. Google’s SVP, Hiroshi Lockheimer, announced. Still, no further details were provided on its functionality, such as whether it will be limited to emergency calls, SMS only, or low-speed data connections.

Navigation gestures

The popularity of navigation gestures has grown in recent years, and Android 14 is expected to advance this trend with its new Navigation Gestures feature. This feature enables users to effortlessly navigate their device using a variety of gestures, making it easier to access apps and functions and simplifying the screen for a clearer view.

App cloning

Google is experimenting with a new "Cloned Apps" feature in Android 14, allowing users to run multiple instances of an app and use two accounts simultaneously.
