  • OnePlus has confirmed that it will launch its first foldable smartphone this year.
  • The company had earlier trademarked monikers for foldable and flip phones.
  • OnePlus is expected to launch its foldable smartphone in Q3 2023.
The battle is heating up in the foldables segment, which has so far been dominated by Korean smartphone maker Samsung. Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has now confirmed that it is working on a foldable phone.

This is not the first time we are hearing about a foldable phone from OnePlus. In 2022, a report had revealed that OnePlus is working on a foldable phone, which could be based on the Oppo Find N.

During a panel discussion at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, OnePlus confirmed that its first foldable smartphone will be launched in 2023.

To recall, during the launch of the OnePlus 11, the company had teased that “something phenomenal” is coming in Q3 2023. This could be a foldable phone. In addition to this, we could also see a flip phone. OnePlus had earlier trademarked the monikers “OnePlus V Fold” and “OnePlus V Flip”. Interestingly, Oppo recently unveiled the Find N2 Flip globally, with its new Flexion hinge.

“Our first foldable phone will have the signature OnePlus fast and smooth experience. It must be a flagship phone that doesn’t settle because of its folding form, in terms of industrial design, mechanical technology, and other aspects. We want to launch a device that aims to be at the pinnacle experience of today’s foldable market,” said Kinder Liu, president, OnePlus at the MWC 2023.

At the moment, there is no information about the foldable smartphone from OnePlus and whether the device will be launched in global markets.

OnePlus and Google expected to join the foldable segment

OnePlus is not the only company that is working on a foldable smartphone. Google has been working on a foldable smartphone for some time now, and the device is expected to be launched in May 2023. Samsung currently dominates the foldable phones segment with its Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Flip 4 smartphones.
